APRIL 1, 2025 – SAINTS

READ: Acts 16:11-24

“Paul and Timothy, bondservants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, with the bishops and deacons: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” – Phil. 1:1-2

This letter is written by Paul and Timothy. They call themselves servants of Jesus Christ, pointing to their heavenly Master, who leads His churches and uses His servants for this purpose.

At the same time, this also means they write with divine authority. They serve on behalf of the Head of the Church, appealing to the readers to receive their letter as words from Christ, their Sender.

They also show their appreciation for the church in Philippi—not just as a group of believers sharing faith for mutual edification, nor only addressing church leaders. Instead, they consider all believing members as “saints in Christ Jesus.”

Being holy does not mean they are without sin; rather, it signifies being set apart from the world and dedicated to God in communion with Christ.

This applies to every true church. Every church that is the body of its Head, Jesus Christ, is holy in Him through His blood and Spirit. It is called to serve and honor Christ Jesus, as it belongs to Him who purchased it.

Peter describes the church as “a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9-10).

Paul specifically mentions the office-bearers, who have the vital task of preserving the holiness of the church. To all of them, he conveys the Salutation of divine grace, which brings divine peace.

What does it mean for you to be holy in the Lord?
