READ: Matt. 13:24-35
“The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field” – Matt. 13:24b
The coming of God’s Kingdom is an ongoing matter. Christ is working on it every day at the right hand of God the Father, with haste and with all His strength. The Lord does this through His Word and Spirit.
Thus He sows faith through the proclamation of the Gospel. If that seed falls on good soil, it will grow and there will become true faith; with that the calling comes to join the church of Christ and to help edifying it. In this way, His church is increased and the completion of the Kingdom of heaven is approaching.
In the church, you are nourished and cared for by the Spirit through God’s Word and the sacraments. In this way, the church is preserved by God’s Word and the faith. As a church our prayer is therefore: “Our Father, keep and increase Thy church!” It is important that there is no wrong doctrine. It remains necessary to remain obedient to the pure Word of God and to reject everything that is contrary to it (BC, art. 29).
A return to God’s Word and continual Reformation are always necessary. We will also build each other up in the communion of saints to persevere in the true faith. Additionally, Reformed faith education for our children must be a common concern for the entire congregation. The Lord wants us to work for the spread of the seed of the gospel in this world. For all these things we always need God’s help. Hence our common prayer: Our Father, Thy Kingdom come.
What does the school have to do with this prayer?
