READ: Mark 5:21-24;35-43

Do not be afraid; only believe. – Mark 5:36

As soon as Jesus returned, a large crowd awaited him, including Jairus, a leader of the synagogue. Jairus threw himself at Jesus’ feet and begged Him to come with him as his daughter was dying.  He believed that if Jesus came and laid His hands on her, she would live. Jesus immediately went with him, but he was delayed by a woman in the crowd who had been suffering from a hemorrhage for years and wanted to be healed by touching Jesus. Jesus saw her faith and healed her.

Then, a message arrived that Jairus’ daughter had died. Was it still worth going there? But Jesus went, for He was powerful enough to even overcome death. He wanted to teach people what really mattered – that they needed to believe in Him as their Savior.

First, He let the woman with the hemorrhage know after she touched Him, “Daughter, your faith has made you well” (v.34). Now, He encouraged Jairus to continue having faith in Him, even after receiving this horrible news. Jairus could have thought: “Isn’t there a limit to His power?” But Jesus said, “Do not be afraid, only believe.

When Jesus entered the house, He didn’t want many people around Him. He didn’t want to be seen as just a miracle worker or a magician. Only the parents and three disciples who were also with Him on the mount of transfiguration and in Gethsemane were allowed in the room. Inside, Jesus spoke to the people who were loudly crying, “Why are you making so much noise? The child is not dead, but sleeping.” With just two words, “Little girl, arise,” Jesus raised her from the dead, and she got up and walked around. Jesus instructed them to give her something to eat.

This was a true miracle of God! The people were amazed but were not allowed to spread the news.

What is the true meaning of Jesus’ miracles?
