The coming Messiah guarantees victory. This is a great comfort for the believing remnant, including us. The Child is not just an ordinary earthly human descended from David. He is simultaneously divine. He is born and given to us: He becomes human; He is God with us and receives all power on David’s throne (Matt. 28:19).
The Child is a wonder of God’s love, grace, faithfulness, and glory. Let’s worship Him!
He is also the Counselor: He is Wisdom in person (Prov. 8). He fulfills God’s counsel with all wisdom.
He is able to do it as the Mighty God: He is our refuge and strength. As our Guide, we have nothing to fear. Psalm 46 (in rhymed) says of Him: “The LORD of hosts is on our side: with Jacob‘s God we safely hide.” What He has begun to do, He will complete with haste.
His name “Everlasting Father” means that He has loved His children even to death and still watches over them with love. At the right hand of the Father, He stands ready to help us in times of need (Heb. 4:16). As the Great Shepherd of the sheep, He gave His life for us. His covenant love for us is an eternal love that reaches beyond death into eternity.
Finally, He is called the Prince of Peace. He came to earth to bring peace. He brought that peace through His sacrifice on the cross. Thus, we can live in peace with God and have peace in our hearts. Everything will culminate in the eternal kingdom of peace, which begins in perfection on the last day. There will be no more sin there, only eternal righteousness (2 Pet. 3:13). God’s burning love and omnipotence bring this about. Hallelujah.
