NOVEMBER 17, 2023 – BOLDNESS

by rev. S. de Marie | 17 November 2023 09:05

READ: Heb. 10:19-25: … Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together … but exhorting one another …

The atoning blood of Christ’s one offering grants us boldness, even the right, to enter into God’s sanctuary (v.19). This refers to the heavenly Holy of Holies (9:3, 12; Isaiah 6:1). The entry is through a new and living way that Christ has opened by His blood, His body, which is His sacrifice. This way is new because the old path of the great Day of Atonement is over, and Christ’s  atoning work has lasting efficacy.

There is a second reason we can  draw near to God: Christ sits as the High Priest in the Sanctuary to care for His church (3:6). So, there should be no hesitation if we come to God with a sincere heart and full assurance of faith. If the Lord Christ gives us boldness, then let us walk that path! Remember that Christ cleanses your conscience through His blood from feelings of guilt when you seek forgiveness of your sins from Him.

However, you must hold fast to the confession that Jesus Christ is your only Savior who has fully paid with His blood. If you let go of that, all your assurance and boldness will vanish. This is also a warning against alternative doctrines of reconciliation that do not rely on atonement through satisfaction.

The confession of hope (v.23) means that confessing Christ gives you hope for the fulfillment of all promises: the new Jerusalem and eternal glory. He will perfect it if you hold on to Him, that is certain. Let us encourage and exhort each other in this. You have been given to one another within the community of the saints for this purpose so attending the Sunday worship service is essential as well. There, you hear God’s Word together to encourage one another, especially in view of the return of Christ (v.25).

What does this mean for your church attendance?
