MARCH 15, 2025 – JOSEPH LIVES!

READ: Gen. 45:1-28: …I am Joseph your brother, whom you sold into Egypt… do not therefore be grieved… God sent me before you to preserve life… Hurry and go up to my father… He kissed all his brothers and wept over them… Then they went up out of Egypt and came to the land of Canaan to Jacob their father… Then Israel said, It is enough. Joseph my son is still alive. I will go and see him before I die.

This account demonstrates how God orchestrated events for Joseph to become the preserver of life, for his brothers to change their lives, and for Jacob to overcome his sorrow.

Joseph’s journey was marked by suffering, but it culminated in a rescue operation for God’s covenant people. This showcases God’s faithfulness and undeserved grace.

Joseph does not shy away from addressing his brothers’ past actions (v.4). However, he does not seek revenge or dwell on past wrongs. Instead, he points to God:  God sent me ahead of you to preserve a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance. Even Pharaoh is moved to show favor, welcoming Jacob’s family to Egypt and granting them the best part of the land.

When the brothers return home, Jacob is initially skeptical of their report. Yet, upon hearing Joseph’s words and seeing the wagons sent for him, he exclaims:  It is enough. My son Joseph is still alive. I will go and see him before I die.

Jacob’s sorrow gives way to joyful expectation, knowing all his children are safe and that Joseph has become the savior of their family.

Why don’t the brothers ask for forgiveness?
