SEPTEMBER 4, 2025 – I AM WHO I AM

READ: Ex. 2:23–3:14: … I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt

In Egypt, life becomes increasingly difficult for Israel. The LORD stirs their hearts to cry out to Him for deliverance. God uses such prayer to draw them to Himself, answer them, and redeem them.

Verse 24 says, “And God remembered His covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. … and God acknowledged them.”

The LORD often uses the prayer of faith to fulfill His promises. Even today, this may take time and come with hardship. But prayer has become much richer through Christ, who opened the way to the Father and intercedes for us constantly.

God’s mercy becomes especially evident in His calling of Moses. First, He leads Moses to the mountain of God, Horeb. There, He speaks to him from a burning bush in the form of an angel. Moses must realize how holy God is and take off his sandals.

God immediately makes it clear that He is the God of the covenant — faithful and true to what He promised the patriarchs. Moses hides his face out of fear and reverence for this mighty and holy God (see also Isa. 6:2).

Then God declares what He will do: He has seen the misery of His people and will deliver them from the Egyptians, leading them into the promised land of abundance.
God includes Moses in this divine mission. When Moses hesitates, God promises His presence and gives him a sign (v.12).

Moses then asks what name he should give if the Israelites ask who sent him. God replies, “I AM WHO I AM.”
“I AM” is the faithful and unchanging God who always does what He says and is always present. Say to them: “I AM has sent me to you.”

This comforting and powerful name should be enough for Moses and for the people.

Do you trust in God’s help unconditionally?
