DECEMBER 21, 2025 – PEACE, GOODNESS, SALVATION

READ: Isa. 52:1–12: … How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who proclaims peace, who brings glad tidings of good things, who proclaims salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns!” …

In this chapter Isaiah continues to speak of the redemption that the LORD promises His covenant people. They will be allowed to put on their finest garments, fitting for the LORD: holiness in speech and behavior, living in obedience to and dependence upon Him—yet also rejoicing in Him as their Redeemer. These are festive garments.

The purpose of the exile was purification and cleansing of their sinful lives, which had provoked the LORD’s wrath. Let them now leave all uncleanness behind, and they will go out freely (v.3).

God has always remained their Owner: they were not sold for money; their oppressors had no right to God’s people. Therefore, He will redeem them without money.

Moreover, God will punish their enemies because they blasphemed His name (v.5). In their redemption, God’s people will acknowledge His greatness, faithfulness, and love, and thus honor His name (v.6).

Isaiah describes in verses 7–12 the message of deliverance to the exiles and their reaction to it. The people have already been called to focus their attention on the LORD and prepare to be delivered. Now God’s word of redemption comes through His messenger. He hastens forth and proclaims the good news—the gospel of deliverance: peace to you, goodness, salvation (v.7).

“Peace” means: the debt has been paid; you may live with your God again. That peace will ultimately be earned by Christ. “Goodness” means: life under God’s blessing to His glory. “Salvation” here means: deliverance from the dominion of sin and misery.

In summary: Your King is God in Zion; He dwells again in the midst of His people! All this is good news—“gospel” and “comfort.” It is fulfilled as eternal redemption through Jesus Christ, the Servant of the LORD, who gave His life unto death (Isa. 52:13–53:12).
