APRIL 12, 2026 – DEPTH OF RICHES

READ: Rom. 11:30–36: … For God has shut up all in disobedience that He might have mercy on all. Oh, the depth of the riches … For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be glory forever. Amen.

This section of Scripture concludes with a doxology—a jubilant praise of the divine ways by which the Lord gathers all His children for eternal glory.

In His grace, God works among disobedient people. Gentiles, who during the Old Testament period were imprisoned in disobedience, may in the New Testament share in salvation when, through God’s mercy, they come to faith in Christ. Jews, who by rejecting Christ demonstrated their disobedience, may in part yet come to faith. For this, God uses the display of His mercy to the Gentiles.

Thus, among both Jews and Gentiles, God brings in His full number. He shows mercy to those who were by nature disobedient and who have become children of God solely by grace. Therefore believers from the Gentiles may not look down upon believing Jews, and vice versa. No one may boast in himself. Faith in Christ and deliverance unto eternal life are entirely God’s work.

Paul can only respond with profound wonder and gratitude, giving all honor and praise to God. God’s ways are infinitely higher than ours.

What wisdom the Lord displays. We owe everything to Him: our life, our conversion, our future. All is from the triune God: He has elected us, He has created us, He as our Saviour is the source of our salvation.

Everything occurs through His work in and upon us, especially our regeneration and faith, with the goal that we live in grateful devotion to Him—ultimately in eternal glory. Therefore: “To Him be glory forever.” Paul affirms this with his whole heart: Amen.

How do we show our gratitude?
