SEPTEMBER 29, 2023 – TREASURE

READ: Is. 58:1-10

Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy. Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share, storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life. – 1 Tim. 6:17-19

As believers, we are already rich in faith, but that will be especially evident at the appearance of our Savior and in the future time of eternal glory. However, if you are rich in the present time, on earth, it can be difficult to enter into the riches of the coming Kingdom.

The Lord Jesus taught this to the rich young man (Mark 10:23-25). He also made it clear in the parable of the rich man and Lazarus.

This does not mean that you cannot be rich. But, says Paul, you should not then rely on your earthly wealth because it will pass away. Instead, place your hope in the living God who can grant you eternal life. Yes, even now, He is the source of all good things and provides you with everything to enjoy on earth; namely, everything for which you can pray and give thanks to Him (1 Tim. 4:4-5). He even provides it in abundance: much more than we deserve.

Timothy must teach the rich not to be arrogant, not to boast about their wealth, and not to feel superior to those who are not rich. Instead, they should use their wealth to do good, to do what is pleasing to God: helping others, being generous to the poor, and being willing to share together.

Upon this, the blessing of the Lord rests. Then they gather for themselves a treasure in heaven: eternal life with the living God! Let us feel addressed by these words of God in a time when many have abundance!

Is it easy to “share together” with others?
