OCTOBER 25, 2024 – THE WEDDING OF THE LAMB

READ: Rev. 19:1-10: …Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready …

John hears the angels in heaven glorifying God en masse because of His righteous judgments. This particularly apples to the judgment on the great harlot for what she has caused in destroying the earth and in persecuting the church. God is praised for the fact that she must eternally pay for her deeds.

Then the heavenly representatives of the church and creation also respond to this song of joy, agreeing in worship of God. From heaven comes an exhortation to the church in heaven and on earth to praise God with the words of Ps. 113 (v.5). The church in heaven is the first to respond (v.6) with a great song: Hallelujah! Let everyone now praise Him, Yahweh, the faithful God of the covenant.

God’s kingship has been fully acknowledged through the judgment. Nothing and no one can deny: God, the Almighty, is King. Everything is subject to Him, the great final goal has been achieved (1 Cor. 15:24-28)!

But now there is also every reason for joy in glorifying Him. For, as the church rejoices, the wedding of the Lamb has come! And His wife, the bride, has made herself ready. She received spotless, shining clothing. These are the righteous acts of the saints: their deeds sanctified by the blood of Christ.

This wedding is the eternal communion in glory of the church with her Savior Christ, the Lamb, and in Christ with God, the Almighty. This is an unimaginably rich future: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what has not entered the human heart—this is what God has prepared for those who love Him” (1 Cor. 2:9).

This future is assured for all who are called in faith to this wedding! You can already find blessedness in this calling, for what is said here are true words (v.9)!

Should we also prepare ourselves? How?

Sing: Ps. 118:9
