READ: Rev. 19:11-21: … a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True … and His name is called The Word of God … Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God … And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: King of kings and Lord of lords …
After chapter 16, attention has been given to the fate of great Babylon, the harlot, who was ultimately defeated in the final judgment, making way for the wedding of the Lamb. In Rev. 19:11, we take a step back to hear about the victory over and judgment upon the false prophet, Satan, and all people.
Here, we see Christ’s appearance as the great conqueror, seated on a white horse, a symbol of victory. He is faithful and true. This is evident from His judgment and battle. His appearance is terrifying, impressive: Nothing is hidden from Him; His power surpasses that of His opponents.
His glory is incomprehensibly great (He has a name that no one else knows), He comes to conquer, covered in a robe dipped in blood (see Is. 63:1-2). He is the Word of God (John 1): God expresses Himself in Him.
The armies that accompany Him without weapons (v.14) are heavenly angels. As a weapon, there is a sharp sword coming out of His mouth: His Word of judgment and justice. He also rules the nations with an iron rod: He has complete control over them.
This includes their final definitive sentence: the image of the winepress of God’s wrath (compare Rev. 14:19-20). He has the authority for all of this: He is King of kings and Lord of lords!
There is a final confrontation, but its outcome is so certain that there is already an invitation to the birds of prey to devour the corpses of the defeated enemies (compare Matt. 24:28). The beast and the false prophet are thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone.
Does this vision give you peace and confidence?
